All year/ 1st semester (ends December 20) 2nd semester (begins January 5)
August 16- September 2 Begin part-singing, sight- singing and music for Veterans' Day Program.
September 6- December 13 Prepare for winter concerts

January 5- January 29 Prepare for Region Choir

Musical elements that will be addressed on every piece of music include:
Note reading/sight singing
Dynamics
Diction
Rhythm
Tone
Diaphragmatic breathing
Posture
Musical expression
Vocal control
South Carolina Standards addressed:
Grades 9 –12 Proficient
Sing with fluency, variety of expression, and increased vocal control, alone and in small and large ensembles. Sing with expression and technical accuracy a large and varied repertoire of vocal literature with a level of difficulty of 4 on a scale of 1 to 6, including songs performed from memory. Sing, with increased fluency and expression, music in a variety of languages representing a diversity of cultures. Sing music written in four parts, with or without accompaniment. Demonstrate ensemble skills in rehearsal and performance.
Grading policy:
Students will earn participation grades daily. Students will be graded on class participation, posture, and class preparation.
Written tests will be given on basic music theory.
Community concerts will be counted as a major test grade.
Winter concert will count as the exam for chorus members who meet the exam exemption policy. A written exam will be given to students who do not meet exam exemption requirements and/or do not participate in the winter concert.
** After school rehearsals may be necessary for chorus. Individual after school help is available for auditions by appointment.
